Can I Switch Plans? How Are Upgrades/Downgrades Handled?

Plan Changes

At any time, you can use the Billing section to switch plans and/or change the number of Users on your plan. Plan changes are handled on a prorated basis.

If you upgrade, you'll be charged a prorated amount based on partial usage, immediately. If you downgrade, a prorated credit note will be issued, redeemable against future invoices.

Prorated Upgrade Example

Let's say you upgrade from a $100/mo plan to a $200/mo plan, in the middle of your billing cycle. Of the $100 you would've paid at the beginning of the month, you would've used-up half, i.e. $50; and remaining $50 are left unused. And for the $200/mo plan, for half a month, the cost is $100.

Your card will immediately be charged $100 - $50 = $50 to pay for the remaining half-month; and next month onward, your bill will be $200.

Sidebar: If you are on a monthly plan, billed on the 1st of each month; then for a month with 30 days, 'the middle of your billing cycle' would correspond to the 15th of the month.

Prorated Downgrade Example

Now, let's say Harry downgrades from a $100/mo plan to a $50/mo plan, in the middle of his billing cycle. Of the $100 that he would've paid at the beginning of the month, he's used-up half, i.e. $50; and remaining $50 are left unused. Now, for the $50/mo plan, for half a month, the cost is $25.

Of Harry's unused $50, $25 will be used to pay for the remaining half-month; and the other $25 will be will be reduced from Harry's next month's bill; which would be $50 - $25 = $25. From that point onward, Harry's monthly bill will be $50.
